Midday Veil - Subterranin Ritual II

Just stumbled across this baby over at Bandcamp and it's cheap cheap cheap. What a lush piece of drawn out Popol Vu-esqe delight it is too. Beautiful video to opener Moon Temple below.
If you likes your tunes Kosmiche inflected, this is deffo one for youse!

Found a gig on KEXP which really kills after the interview in the middle. Kinda remind me of a female fronted Lumerians. Plus, if you like face fuzz, youse gonna dig these bearded babies. Not sure about the voice/vocals, maybe a little strident for this band, but hey, I've heard worse.

Bout' Time I Got Back On The Hoss

Had a crappy year, hence not many post, but feeling better now, so lets get on with it.

Been some cracking music released this year, which I've buried myself in deeply, of which, more to come shortly.

Stumbled across this great band Death and Vanilla whilst perusing the in turns, vexing and fascinating 'out there' music club / collective that is The Outer Church.  (Website layout isn't all it could be, but it's worth a rummage, somegreat artist led mixes on their through mixcloud).

I'm guessing if you dig Broadcast , and you all know by the myriad of posts about them that I do muchly, then your sure to love this Swedish collective.

Felt obliged to download their entire output from Bandcamp, an EP, album and 7", all with great covers, especially the 7", which to these eyes looks like prime Julian House, or at least a great facsimilie.
Just put an order in for the beautiful red vinyl 7". Maaan, I 'm a sucker for coloured vinyl.

7"
EP
LP
Also a lush video to 'From Above' from the 7".

Another great one from the self titled LP called 'Rituals'

Yet another wonderful track - 'Cul-De-Sac'

Mentioned the Outer Church at the beginning of this post, they have released a wonderful psychotronic album of artists who've played at their club at various venues around the UK called simply, The Outer Church, a 2CD menagerie or out there esoterica (word of the day that!)

Can't recommend this release enough, some fascinating left field 'occult' electronica from some previously 'unknown' to me artists. To my ears, many have drunk deeply of the well of occult esoterica and also worshipped at the alter of COIL in relation to their sounds, atmospheres and visuals. I hate to use the word Hauntology, but it's a perfect description of what's contained within.

Tracklist Here.

Strictly limited release, so dig deep and bag a bargain. Sure to be a future collectable along the lines of such hard to get esoteric greats as The Elephant Table Album  and 'An Afflicted Mans Musica Box' to name but two.

Also came across a great duo whilst on the Outer Church site called Occult Hand whose spooky, atmospheric rumblings on Illutrious Pairing have been perfect for these Halloweenesque windblown evenings of late.

Great video Here. If you enjoy the slightly unsettling.

Doppler - Jacob Scott

Stumbled across a great band from Denmark called Casau Sui from a you tube video which blew me away (see below). The music is a kinda mix of The Heads, Hawkwind, Julie's Haircut and Can. The wonderful album 'Pewt'r Sessions' is available here. Consisting of free style jams and more considered pieces, it's a great improv' style release that all right minded heads should check out post haste.

The band seem to have spawned as many offshoots and solo projects as they've released actual albums themselves, and one that caught my eye was Doppler, by Jacob Skott, a beautiful analogue/ Kosmische piece recorded under the El Paraiso 'Impetus' series. (The idea being that a given artist has a specific time improvise a musical piece and come up with the goodies for a future limited vinyl release).

Here's the blurb from the El Paraiso website:-

Doppler is the as-of-yet most conceptual album of El Paraiso Records ‘Impetus’-series, which is the labels imprint of improvisation and chance collaborations. On Doppler, Jakob Skøtt utilizes two synthesizers and a chain of effects. That’s it. This may sound like a tedious exercise, but for an album mostly spliced together by layers and layers of first takes and unexpected real-time peaks and turns, there is a unique sense of both structure and texture filling these vibrant tracks.
Although relying heavily on synchronisation (the most important source of sound being a Prophet 600, the first polyphonic-synth to implement the midi-synchronisation signal), every track constantly shifts and turns in unexpected ways. Sometimes creeping drones seamlessly leave heavy pulsations behind in the dust, other times abruptly blending melodies into strange permutations of polyrhythms, never quite settling back into any sort of pattern. An organic element being a constant presence in these tracks.
The closest reference to this sort of music is of course the school of german Kosmiche: Cluster, Kraftwerk, Harmonia, etc. But the strains of John Carpenter & Steve Reich individual brands of modulation & repetition is just as clearly appar"ent throughout the album. Topped off with an overall psychedelic tone ala Can or Soft Machine.
Besides drumming in respected stoner-psych outfit Causa Sui, Jakob Skøtt has been involved in a wide varage of projects. Including drum duties for Limp (Morr Music) & Chicago Odense Ensemble (featuring Jeff Parker & Rob Mazurek of Tortoise, etc.). Jakob also operates as the noted shoegaze-duo Syntaks alongside his girlfriend Anna (Ghostly International). Furthermore, Jakob is the one responsible for the El Paraiso visual shtick, as well as having done exclusive live visuals for such acts as Amon Düül II, Acid Mothers Guru, actress Asia Argento & the Roadburn festival.
Impetus implies movement. The doppler effect is soundwaves shifting in pitch as the listener approaches it: Manipulation of sound thru the use of space!"

Couldn't have put it better myself (so I didn't!).

Great little video of the standout track here....

If I had to compare this release with other artists, I'd say it was a collision of early Human League (circa Dignity of Labour) with , Equinox and  a soupcon of Geogaddi era Boards of Canada and a dash of Phaedra era Tangs. As I'm sure you'll agree, a tasty soup of sound indeed. Easily compares and indeed outdoes recent releases by Emeralds and ARP, who seem to have cornered this ind of analogue space rock in recent years.

Doppler is a limited edition blue vinyl release of 500 copies, get one whilst they're hot!

(The Original) Journey To Avebury

Have been off work for a few days after a short spell in hospital, and boredom has led me to trawl the web looking for nuggets to fill the time. I stumbled across this great little film by Derek Jarman 'A Journey To Avebury' that I hadn't seen in quite some time. Shot in 16mm film with a gorgeous yellow filter, which adds a beautiful, painterly and other-worldly feel to the pictures that sums up what is lacking in a visit to this special place today.

Take a 10 minute time travel into the past. You'll not see the daytime monument so empty these days.

Soulwax - Homage to Bowie

With all the noise and commotion around the re-emergence of pop's chameleon king, via the soon to be released LP 'The Next Day',  Soulwax (2Many DJ's) have produced a great little fan video of all things Bowie.
It showcases the better moments in the Thin White Dukes career, highlighting those kooky 'Bowie' characters and exploring the man's genius at self reinvention and re-interpretation.
If your a Bowie fan, have a watch, and if your not, have a watch anyway. There are some wonderful ideas and images cobbled together from Bowie's extraordinary career.

Remnants - Stop Motion History Of The Neolithic

REMNANTS explores the rise and fall of the Neolithic civilisation of Britain via motion controlled, digital timelapse cinematography.

This sounds right up my street, am a total sucker for all things Neolithic and onwards.
Here's a couple of Trailers for the movie.

I've hoofed it to, huddled under, touched and marveled at may of the sites included in the trailers.
Can't wait to see the full thing looks wonderful.

"In one of the longest continuous cultural developments ever known, for nearly 3000 years construction was undertaken of some of the most enduring monuments in the world – standing stones and stone circles. Having been dismissed for centuries by much of academia as the work of little more than illiterate barbarians, research in the 20th and 21st centuries by a handful of persistent investigators has revealed these Megalithic sites to be not only amongst the oldest and most mysterious, but perhaps the most profound. Little is known of this civilisation, and its people have all but vanished without trace. All that is left are their remnants, and they too, in the crush of ‘progress’ are disappearing. Photographed throughout the UK and Ireland, and set to an original music score by TANGERINE DREAM member Thorsten Quaeschning, REMNANTS captures the essence and austere beauty of these amazing constructions, suggests and reveals their purposes, and poses an important question to our own contemporary position. History has proven repeatedly that no civilisation can last indefinitely. Humankind’s attempts to immortalise itself have been futile undertakings. Our current technologically based civilisation may shortly find itself at this same juncture.

Is it not unlikely that we shall share the same fate?

Davros VS Bond

Genius little stop motion home made video I stumbled across on YouTube. Apparently took two years to make, some fantastic sound effects, esp the crappy motorbike noise when Davros is scooting about.
The bit when Davros texts Godzilla for help had me howling .
